Alasdair and for those who are interested. After the crisis of 2008 the BBC made a very interesting documentary of the crash of 1929. Here is the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlSxPouPCIM or google search crash 1929. Several subject you discussed in this article or others are also mentioned in this documentary. What have we learned ? 0% is my best guess :-) :-) . The great line of the story is telling and so recognizable. Several persons interviewed had a dad or grand dad being a director at the largests US banks. Personally 2 living witnesses of 1929 appeared in the program telling their recollections of what they remember of that day in 1929. And old man of 103 years old worked as a messenger boy at very young age at Wall street still alive in that program. Remarkable !!!.

Hi Alasdair I know you don't give investment advice but are you saying that it's prudent in general to avoid stocks and cash and move to gold , maybe not 100% but greater than 50%?
